30/30 rule
If thunder follows lightning by 30 seconds or less, get inside. Stay there for 30 minutes after the last thunder.
Where the sky cracked
We flag any PA grid cell currently coded as thunderstorm (WMO 95–99) or carrying a thunderstorm-related NWS alert. Map refreshes every fifteen minutes; expect gaps on clear days.
Bolt markers indicate grid points currently reporting thunderstorm conditions. Red polygons show thunderstorm-related NWS watches and warnings.
Safety note
If thunder follows lightning by 30 seconds or less, get inside. Stay there for 30 minutes after the last thunder.
Baseball, soccer, outdoor pools: evacuate at the first flash within eight miles (24-second count).
Stay off corded phones and away from windows. Avoid water and metal plumbing during a storm.
Move to low, dry ground. Avoid isolated trees, hilltops, and open fields. Never shelter under a shallow overhang.
